If you're upgrading the shifter in your T56 transmission, this Shifter Base and Handle Gasket will make your life much easier. Using silicone can result in unwanted noise and vibration, especially if it's not evenly distributed to eliminate metal-on-metal contact. It can be tedious and time-consuming, but this shifter gasket is the solution.
